Friends need YOUR helping hands!
Bookstore Attendant
Be the face of Friends in one of our bookstore locations at East, Library 21c, or Penrose. Provide customer service and information about the Friends, re-stock books, straighten shelf displays, alphabetize books, create displays, perform light cleaning duties, accept donations. Skills/Experience needed:
General knowledge of books and enthusiasm for reading! Cashier experience may be helpful, depending on location. Volunteers are requested to commit to one shift per week for a minimum of six months.
Book Sorter
Friends of PPLD seeks volunteers with a general knowledge of books. We receive hundreds of books every week; each one gets inspected, graded, and sorted by condition and genre. Moderate physical exertion is involved (lifting, bending, etc.) Due to the level of training involved, volunteers are requested to commit to one three-hour shift per week for a minimum of one year.
Finance Committee
Do you have a head for numbers? Experience with budgeting on the business and/or non-profit level? Our Treasurer requests your assistance in analyzing and reviewing budgets and expenditures. The time commitment is 2 or 3 hours every quarter.
Special Events Committee
This is a great opportunity for folks who would like to volunteer occasionally when they are available. Friends offer events throughout the year, and we keep a roster of folks who like to pitch in with whatever needs doing. Checking people in, passing out information, directing event attendees to the proper location, assisting in room set-ups -- a smiling face and can-do attitude are all that's required!
Online Sales Team
Friends maximizes the power of patron donations by scouting out titles and sets of books that may bring more income when offered to a wider audience of the online marketplace. If you are tech-savvy with a heart for treasure hunting, we need you on our team! A minimum one-year commitment is requested due to the level of training involved.
Bi-annual Big Book Sale
Twice yearly, over a span of three days in the months of March and October, Friends holds a Big Book Sale. We put out tens of thousands of books and media, and folks come from near and far to view and purchase items at fantastically low prices. It's a fast-paced, fun, and friendly event that requires many hands to make light work!
